Getting There

Directions From
Gisborne

Directions are pretty simple. From Gisborne city centre drive out on State Highway 35 (also referred to as The Pacific Highway) towards Wainui, Tolaga Bay and Te Araroa and stay on the road until you get to Whanarua Bay.

Depending on how often you stop it may take you more than 3 hours to get to the Waihau Bay turnoff.  You may like to look at the Bay but if not, then stay on the main road, driving up the hill.  About 30 minutes later you should arrive at Whanarua Bay.

When you get to Whanarua Bay – a tiny little place that’s easy to miss.  You need to look out for a small unmarked side road on your left.

If you’ve passed Pacific Macadamia Nuts on your left then you’ve missed the turn off and should back up.  Just before Pacific Nuts (about 100 metres) there is a small road with a lot of letterboxes on its corner. Ours is the blue and yellow one marked 8344D.

Turn into this short road and drive to the top, turn left and almost immediately on your right you will see our address, 8344D.  Drive straight up this driveway and continue on the concrete strip.  The round house at the top is where I live and you’re in the right place.  Drive up to the house and around the back where you can safely park,  "when you drive around the back of the house there is a guest carport waiting for you". Our new dog ‘Halo’ – a German Shepherd is kind and gentle and will welcome you as will we.

Alternate Route Option

Directions From
Whakatane or Opotiki

From Whakatane follow signs to Ohope and Opotiki.  Drive through Ohope, staying on the main road, with the Pacific Ocean on your left.  This road is sometimes referred to as the The Pacific Highway.  It will take about 30 mins to drive from Whakatane to Opotiki.

As you cross the Waioeka River and enter Opotiki you will see the New World supermarket on your left.  Continue along this road until you see signage directing you to turn left in the direction of Te Kaha and State Highway 35.  Drive down John Street to the roundabout where you will turn right and head off to Whanarua Bay which is about 25 minutes drive past Te Kaha on SH 35.  There is no need to deviate from the road unless you are exploring.

If you’ve passed the Spark telephone booth on your right then you’ve missed the turn off.  About 100 metres past Pacific Nuts there is a small road with a lot of letterboxes on its corner.  Ours is the blue and yellow one marked 8344D .  There is also a sign on the corner pointing you up the rise.

Turn into this short road and drive to the top, turn left and almost immediately on your right you will see our address, 8344D.  Drive straight up this driveway and continue on the concrete strip.  The round house at the top is where we live and you’re in the right place.  Drive up to the house and around the back where you can safely park, "when you drive around the back of the house there is a guest carport waiting for you". On your arrival we will be there to greet you.
